Maguire Seven

Older readers will no doubt recall the story of the Maguire Seven.

After Paul Hill and Gerard Conlon were forced to sign false confessions, they were tortured into accusing other Irish living in London at the time.

The Maguire family, except the youngest boy, were wrongfully convicted of terrorism as a result.

Patrick Maguire was a thirteen year old boy at the time. The judge accepted he had made bombs under the tuition of his mother.

The family were sentenced to fourteen years imprisonment. The judge said he regretted he was unable to have them executed.

His childhood and those of his brother and sister were destroyed as a result.

The link below will take you to a documentary on what happened to this boy, now in his fifties, as a result of the sentence, despite the subsequent pardon.
